Ceramics Classes in Cleveland 2008 Winter Schedule

Beginner Ceramics on the Wheel
Session One: 6 weeks Mondays,

February 4th ‐ March 10th 6:30‐8:30 p.m.
Session Two: 6 weeks Mondays, March 24th ‐ April 27th 6:30‐8:30 p.m.
Price for Member: $133 Price for Non‐member: $148 Registration Deadline: Jan. 21 ‐ Session 1
Instructor: Gina DeSantis
This class is designed for those students with little‐to‐no experience working on the potter’s wheel. Emphasis will be
placed on beginning wheel‐throwing techniques including wedging, centering, pulling, trimming, and finishing. Techniques for creating handles and surface decoration will also be explored. Tools can be purchased at Pat Catan’s, craft Center for about $10 dollars. *Class fee includes clay, slab roller, wheels, glazes and firings of several pieces.*



Advanced Ceramics

10 weeks Tuesdays, February 5th ‐ April 8th 6:30‐8:30 p.m.

This course is designed for intermediate to advanced potters. Through experimentation in shaping, decorating
and altering simple forms, students will develop a deeper understanding of functional forms. The coursework will involve both slab work and wheel throwing basics. We will also investigate the functional form’s evolution throughout ceramic art history. *Class fee includes clay, slab roller, wheels, glazes and firings of several pieces*
**Students who wish to obtain one graduate credit hour through Ashland University are required to create no less than
10 pieces, each exploring different shapes and decorative techniques, provide a 1‐3 paragraph artist statement that will
be presented during the final critique of the assignment, and keep a sketchbook of thoughts and ideas leading to their
final project.
